Magnetized Accretion Flows: Effects of Gas Pressure

چکیده
We study how axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) accretion flows depend on γ adiabatic index in the polytropic equation of state. This work is an extension of Mościbrodzka & Proga (2008), where we investigated the γ dependence of 2-D Bondilike accretion flows in the hydrodynamical (HD) limit. Our main goal is to study if simulations for various γ can give us insights into to the problem of various modes of accretion observed in several types of accretion systems such as black hole binaries (BHB), active galactic nuclei (AGN), and gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). We find that for γ >∼ 4/3, the fast rotating flow forms a thick torus that is supported by rotation and gas pressure. As shown before for γ = 5/3, such a torus produces a strong, persistent bipolar outflow that can significantly reduce the polar funnel accretion of a slowly rotating flow. For low γ, close to 1, the torus is thin and is supported by rotation. The thin torus produces an unsteady outflow which is too weak to propagate throughout the polar funnel inflow. Compared to their HD counterparts, the MHD simulations show that the magnetized torus can produce an outflow and does not exhibit regular oscillations. Generally, our simulations demonstrate how the torus thickness affects the outflow production. They also support the notion that the geometrical thickness of the torus correlates with the power of the torus outflow. Our results, applied to observations, suggest that the torus ability to radiatively cool and become thin can correspond to a suppression of a jet as observed in the BHB during a transition from a hard/low to soft/high spectral state and a transition from a quiescent to hard/low state in AGN.

Spherically Symmetric Accretion Flows: Minimal Model with Mhd Turbulence
The first spherical accretion model was developed 55 years ago, but the theory is yet far from being complete. The real accretion flow was found to be time-dependent and turbulent. This paper presents the minimal MHD spherical accretion model that separately deals with turbulence. Treatment of turbulence is based on simulations of several regimes of collisional MHD. The effects of freezingin am...

In this work, we carry out self –similar solutions of viscous-resistive accretion flows around a magnetized compact object. We consider an axi-symmetric, rotating, isothermal steady accretion flow, which contains a poloidal magnetic field of the central star. The dominant mechanism of energy dissipation is assumed to be the turbulence viscosity and magnetic diffusivity due to the magnetic field...

Local Dynamical Instabilities in Magnetized, Radiation Pressure Supported Accretion Disks
We present a general linear dispersion relation which describes the coupled behavior of magnetorotational, photon bubble, and convective instabilities in weakly magnetized, differentially rotating accretion disks. We presume the accretion disks to be geometrically thin and supported vertically by radiation pressure. We fully incorporate the effects of a nonzero radiative diffusion length on the...
متن کاملThree-dimensional Mhd Simulations of Radiatively Inefficient Accretion Flows
We present three-dimensional MHD simulations of rotating radiatively inefficient accretion flows onto black holes. We continuously inject magnetized matter into the computational domain near the outer boundary and run the calculations long enough for the resulting accretion flow to reach a quasi-steady state. We have studied two limiting cases for the geometry of the injected magnetic field: pu...
